Fly Away Home

A One-Woman Show.

“Fly Away Home” (FAH). When childhood is rife with domestic violence, substance abuse and toxic relationships, children and parents can teach us some of the most crucial lessons about the power that radical love possess to transform rage into compassion. How do people create spaces of belonging within systems that tell them they don’t belong? Drawing up her background Visual and Performing Arts degree from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Dramatic Arts, Azmera's rhythmic delivery, cadence and charismatic stage presence re-count a story of going from victim to victory through the love of friends, extended family and faith.FAH's pilot made its public debut at the House of Sustainable Art’s in Salvador Bahia, Brasil in May 2018, funded by the U.S Department of State Bureau of Cultural and Educational Affairs Creative and Performing Arts Research Grant through the Fulbright Program. Rooted in the African tradition of song and dance, the offering interweaves Hawaiian chants, Rastafarian Nya Binghi songs, hymns, gospel music and spirituals to heal, uplift and restore hope in humanity.
